Guitar Headstock Decal Application Guide

Use the instructions supplied with your product as the starting point. Waterslide decals, adhesive designs and 3D metal logos need different fitting methods.

1. Check the design before fitting

Check the artwork, measurements and finish before trimming, soaking or applying the decal. Compare it with the intended position on your headstock. Contact us before use if the design or size appears wrong.

2. Check the background and clear coat

Transparent inkjet designs are unsuitable for dark or black backgrounds. Check whether a foil or explicitly labelled dark-background product is needed. Test clear-coat compatibility before application and follow the product’s sealing instructions.

3. Follow the material-specific process

For waterslide products, follow the supplied preparation, soaking, positioning and drying instructions. Avoid over-soaking. Adhesive and 3D metal designs should use their own instructions; do not treat them as waterslide transfers.

4. Allow the recommended drying time

Follow the supplied instructions before applying additional clear coat or handling the surface. If the instructions do not specify something your finish requires, ask us before proceeding.

Watch a waterslide demonstration

Watch the existing Luthier Decals waterslide application video. Product pages may also include material-specific demonstrations. A waterslide video does not replace the instructions for a metal or adhesive product.
